Biography
Jamie is a Latino artist currently residing in Denver, Colorado and is renowned for his captivating blend of surrealist painting, thought-provoking documentaries, and the enigmatic 'Cloak' photography series. Raised in Longmont, Colorado, by immigrant parents from Mexico and Peru, Chihuan's diverse cultural heritage ignited a vibrant imagination that would fuel his artistic journey.
A self-taught artist, Chihuan's unique perspective challenges traditional norms and delves into the complexities of identity. His neo-surrealist approach seamlessly intertwines personal experiences with universal themes, inviting viewers to explore the depths of their subconscious. Inspired by the surrealist movement, Chihuan's work often reflects the challenges of being a first-generation American, as he seeks to uncover his true identity through artistic expression.
Beyond his fine art practice, Chihuan is a versatile creative who thrives in various artistic mediums. As the founder and owner of A Deal in Hell, a creative agency based in Colorado, he has successfully collaborated with renowned clients such as Native Roots, Ocean Spray, Palo Alto Networks, the Denver Art Museum, and Big Cartel. His advertising, film, branding, and photography work showcases his ability to transition between commercial and artistic endeavors seamlessly.
Jamie has exhibited at the Museo de Las Americas, Dateline, FoolProof Gallery, Firehouse art center, Denver Art Museum, EDGE Gallery, The Museum of Boulder, and The Collective in Lafayette. He has sold artwork all around the world.
Jamie has a permanent mural next to The Lyric Cinema in FoCo. He also received the Joesphine Miller award in 2023.
He was also a resident artist at the Wild Studio in the Denver Art Museum and featured in the surreal art journal Birdy Magazine Issue 134.
