Biography
Danielle Ramos is a self-taught artist based in Denver, Colorado. Her family comes from southern Colorado and northern New Mexico, and her work is influenced by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the animals that live there, and the food and traditions of her family’s region.
Danielle has always used art to express herself. When she first lived on her own, she could not afford artwork for her walls, so she painted her own decorations. From there, her practice grew into a lifelong pursuit. She learned entirely on her own, exploring materials and techniques through experimentation.
Her primary mediums include acrylic paint, often combined with oil in mixed media, as well as ink and colored pencil. She is drawn to materials that allow for strong, vibrant color. She defines her style as Chicana Futurism and explores themes of ancient cultures before modern borders, trade networks with Mesoamerica, and the beliefs and traditions of Turtle Island.
Danielle begins each piece with research and selects a color theme and composition before painting. She is inspired by the ancestors of North America and aims to reflect their histories and traditions. She encourages viewers to engage with her work in their own way and find their own meaning.
Her work has been shown across Colorado and beyond, including painted traffic boxes, museums, libraries, and galleries. Danielle’s main goal is to have her art seen. She wants people to experience her work and interpret it on their own terms. Through her practice, she continues to explore history, culture, and storytelling while bringing her vision into the present.
