Angela Ramirez

Biography
My name is Angela Ramirez. I grew up in Commerce City Colorado. My family migrated from southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico . I live in this community.
I was always a creative child I paid attention to my surroundings and made things out of found objects. Taking art classes in school I found a love for the creative process.
Attending Metropolitan state College after high school I majored in Art with an emphasis in crafts. My minor was Chicano Studies. My intention was to be an art teacher but never completed my certification. I taught art classes through the recreation center in summer programs and after school classes. In 1976 I began working for King Soopers and worked for
42 years. During my time there I used my talents to paint windows build displays and draw
signs. A valuable lesson I learned was to listen and create things other people visualize.
I knew I wanted to create my own art so I joined CHAC in 2016. I retired in 2018 so that was my opportunity to paint and explore my own style. My interest in painting rocks started in 2006 as I was inspired by the shape and painted them accordingly. People liked them and that led me to participate in mercados and outdoor fairs. Most recently at the tiendita located at CHAC.
My primary medium is acrylic on canvas but I also enjoy collage, colored pencil, mixed media, and painting rocks. My artistic style has been described as looking New Mexico I’m sure I was inspired by our many trips to visit family. The themes in my art often depict women,I have been greatly influenced by my Mother, my grandmothers and my many aunts and cousins.
My paintings are colorful, positive and uplifting often inspired by a photo or personal experience.
My hope is that viewers can connect personally or that it evokes an emotion or memory.
I have exhibited at Brighton Armory , Oz Gallery in Thornton , Lucille Ribera Gallery in Northglenn, Louisville Library, 40 West Hub ,The Collective in Lafayette, Art Contained del Sol , and the Denver Art Museum. Through a grant I and a group of artists made art for the municipal building in Commerce City. I have one painting and two batiks in their collection.
I still have a curiosity and a need to learn from each piece I do so my art is always evolving and improving. It has been a great experience to meet, discuss and learn from all the established and upcoming artists I have met at CHAC.
