About The Event
Reflections of Culture, this is a one-of-a-kind art exhibition featuring women artists in our communities and culture(s) through their art. “Our cultures and backgrounds are as unique to each individual as grains of sand, each informed by our ancestors, communities, and geography,” said Executive Director of CHAC Gallery Brende Gurule. As women and artists, we take in our backgrounds and surroundings, contemplate what it means to us, and produce works of art that are reflections of our life experiences. This is what this collaboration exhibit between the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council and Women’s Caucus for ART Colorado Chapter will present in “Reflections of Culture ''. This exhibit is curated by Leslie Lefferdink, Judy Miranda, Lyndy Bush, Brenda Gurule, and Asia Fajardo-Diamond.
The Colorado Chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art (WCA) operates as its own 501(c)(3) organization and is the largest of the 15 nationwide chapters. WCA is committed to recognizing the contribution of women in the arts; providing women with leadership opportunities and professional development; expanding networking and exhibition opportunities for women, supporting local, national, and global art activism; and advocating for equity in the arts for all.
CHAC Gallery & Cultural Center (CHAC Gallery) was founded in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists. The organization was established as a place where Chicano/Latino artists were provided with a venue to explore visual and performance art and promote and preserve Chicano/Latino culture through the expression of the arts. CHAC is an inclusive community of creatives that are dedicated to preserving, showcasing, educating, and reflecting the essence of Chicano/a/x, Latino/a/x and other multicultural/multiracial communities.
