Arte y Cultura: Hispanic Folk Arts of the Southwest!

Exhibit Opening, Friday, April 1, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Location: 300 Strong St. Brighton, CO 80601

Exhibit Runs: April 1-May 31, 2022

Join us to experience the beauty of santos, retablos, and religious folk art from the American Southwest, Northern New Mexico, and Southern Colorado. These art forms are of significant importance to the religious and secular cultural traditions of people from the American Southwest, Northern New Mexico, and Southern Colorado. The featured artists are members of the Denver and CHAC community and are well-known participants in the world-famous traditional Spanish market in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Featured artists will include Carlos Fresques, Judy Miranda, Frank Zamora, Dominic Zamora, Vanessa Fresquez, Vanessa Vasquez, Carlos Santistevan Sr, Carlos Santistevan Jr, Teresa Duran, and Lynn Fresquez.

Coffee and refreshments will be served at the exhibit opening. Also, The Office of Arts and Culture will host Brighton’s pARTy Bus on Friday, April 1 from 6-9 p.m. The bus will take passengers to the three different art receptions happening this night; Art at The Armory “Arte y Cultura: Hispanic Folk Arts of the Southwest”, Eye for Art “Slice of Life” exhibit at Brighton City Hall (500 S. 4th Avenue), and Main Street Creatives Gallery art reception at Main Street Creatives (36 South Main St.).

Chicano Humanities and Arts Council (CHAC) CHAC is an inclusive community of all creatives that are dedicated to preserving, showcasing, educating, and reflecting the essence of Chicana/o/x, Latina/o/x and other multicultural/multiracial communities.

Armory

The Armory is a state-of-the-art cultural arts venue in the heart of Historic Downtown Brighton, within walking distance of numerous shops and restaurants. They are the premier venue for entertainment and cultural arts in the northeast metro region. The Armory was built in 1921 and served as a munitions storage facility; the building also served as the headquarters for Company K, and 157th Infantry of the Colorado National Guard.
